In the past several local historians have researched the history of Welton le Marsh, but apart from a school boy writing a book in 1937, this information has not been generally available to the villages. Now Trevor Oliver and Alex Peters have decided to record their findings in a book and a web site.
What are we doing?
Welton history book
The book will cover the history of the village from the stone age to the present day. It will include stories about the buildings, inhabitants and activities, both past and present. It will be made available by publish-on-demand on Amazon so that everyone may have a copy.
Talks
We plan to host talks at the village hall and pub on what we and others have discovered and get people to discuss their knowledge and memories of the village
Village history website
This website will include selected previews of stories from the book as they are written. Hopefully this will make it more accessible to younger people.
Events
We would like to hold events that both young and old people can join in with such as archaeological digs and surveys or picnics at places around the village such as the castle.
Interview villagers
We are happy to hold individual chats with people in their own homes to view documents or help to write down their stories
What can you do?
Talk to us
It would be wonderful to be able to share your memories with the rest of the village, so please talk to us individually or at one of our organised events so that we can get your stories into the book, or if you would prefer we can come to you.
Interview family and neighbours
Younger villagers can help by talking to older neighbours and family members, to write down their stories of village history.
Comment on our blog posts
Tell us whether you agree with our blog posts – your Grandmother may have told you a different version of the story!
Show us your documents and photos
If you have any old documents or photographs about past life in the village, please show us so we can take copies for the book and record them for posterity.
Write down your stories
This is the most helpful thing you can do. Please write down stories about your house, your childhood village memories or other people and things you remember about the village.
Let’s make something together.
